Game Music of the Week: Contra
When most people think of the game Contra, they most often think about the side-scroller shooter on the NES. The game was about two soldiers Bill Riz and Lance Bean collecting power-ups from flying balloons to defeat evil aliens trying to take over the world.
For most this game brings back fond memories of sleepless nights trying to make it through to the next level, as wave upon waves of enemies try to take you out. For most however this game brings memories memories of frustration, destruction of controllers (and maybe walls not seen since the release of the Wii) and sleepless nights because of failures due to the game’ unforgiving difficulty. Despite the difficulty Contra is considered a classic by most and still is fun to play. The most notable feature about the game was the introduction of the Konami code.
The most memorable track of the music is actually the first track of the game only known as Jungle, since the first level is in the jungle. The song has been remixed a dozen times and has seen many renditions over the game’s history. The song is considered one of the most easily recognized theme in gaming history. (We would like you to do a remix Mr.Viklund)
