The Xbox 2: Electric Boogaloo? Looks Like Microsoft Is Working On A New Console

by on October 10, 2011

This should come to the smallest amounts of surprise in the surprise wagon, but Microsoft is working on a new console!  What does this mean to you?  Well…look forward to dropping another $400 plus $60 for a console and game that you’ll only play for 20 hours, proclaiming that this is the best looking game ever, realizing that there won’t be any good games coming out for awhile, then you use the nifty backwards compatibility to play CoD: Fill-In-The-Blank.

Ahem!  According to some Microsoft employee’s LinkedIn profiles, they are working on next generations of consoles since January.  Jeff Faulkner is the “Next Gen Creative Director”  and apparently worked on the Zune and the Xbox Dashboard update back in November 2008.  Patrick Corrigan is working on the UI for the next-gen console and Jonathan Harris is the “Senior Creative Director” and too has worked on the Zune.

If it’s true that they’ve been working on the next-gen Xbox (Which I hope is not called the 720 because that sounds lame) since January of this year, it looks like that we won’t be seeing whatever the heck Microsoft wants to chuck at us. Here’s hoping they come up with a stupid name like the Xbox 360 2, but even I know that is too lame to pick up.  Let’s see some possible names for this:  Xbox 2.  Xbox 360 2, Xbox 720, The Ugly White Box That Will Never Sell In Japan.

  1. Don’t sugar coat it. Tell us how you really feel.
Though, in fairness, whatever microsoft does, they’ll piss off lots of people.

  2. Is it just me, or has this console “generation” felt excessively long? I wasn’t around for the lengthy dominance of the NES, and I was barely sentient when the 32-bit consoles raised their head, and it’s probably only been a year longer than “average”, but still.
